Dhimzes ([ˈdɪmzeɪz]; Dhimze: jhmirjhvit; [ˈd͡ʒmird͡ʒvitʰ], pl. jhmirjhviá [d͡ʒmirˈd͡ʒvia]) are an ethnic group native to the Western Triangle Sea area in Northeastern Yazland. Dhimzes constitute the main population of Dhimrai and a significant minority in various colonies across the Commonwealth of Dhimrai. In ancient history, Dhimze colonies were established around the Triangle Sea and most notably on Etzavaz, however the ethnic Dhimze population there is now considered a distinct ethnic group.

Dhimze is a Yasgan language and one of two surviving members of the Dhimzic branch, along with Gharzi. It is one of the oldest continuously spoken languages in Jotunnheim. Like several other languages of the region it is written in the Dhimze script, which developed into its modern form around the early 4th millenium CY.

Most Dhimzes follow Western Misraic faith, a church of Misraism based on early Classical Dhimze texts and traditions. Western Misraism, sometimes called Pheiaism, is a polytheistic religion centered around Pheias, goddess of life, and Judzin, god of the Sun. It is one of the largest religions on Jotunnheim.

Geographic subdivisions

Dhimzes have historically been classified into various subgroups based on the geographic region which their ancestors traditionally inhabited. Even if a member of any of these subgroups moves to a different region, they will still be known by the name of their ancestral region.

While in the classical and medieval periods there were more regional differences, in the modern era Dhimrai is generally subdivided into three cultural regions: North, Central and South. The islands in the Triangle Sea are variably considered as part of the South region or a region on its own.

There is a significant Dhimze population outside of metropolitan Dhimrai. The majority stems from colonialism, with ethnic Dhimzes living in current and former colonies of Dhimrai. There are also minority groups living in other countries, either due to territory loss or migration.
